The film takes its name from the fictional textbook Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them from the Harry Potter universe, the author of which, Newton "Newt" Scamander, is the film's protagonist. A sequel, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald was released in November 2018 and Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, the third feature in the series, was released in the UK and the US in April of 2022. Fantastic Beasts was directed by David Yates, who also directed the last three Harry Potter installments and The Legend of Tarzan.
